Stay on alert for environment

The Spokesman-Review

Thank you for keeping the spotlight (“Outdoorsmen remember Secretary Watt,” June 10) on the outright war on the environment, which began in earnest with James Watt in the Reagan years, and which resurfaced with a vengeance after “W” and company took the White House in 2000. The American public and the world must be kept aware of the shameless attempt, which has been largely successful, by this administration to dismantle the infrastructure of environmental laws and protections which have evolved over the past 100 years.

The outlook for America’s remaining wild lands and all of our treasured natural resources seems bleak indeed in the face of this all-out assault. The hope of we who are aware and who care is that this wrecking ball of a pendulum is at the height of its negative swing, and that public outcry will place stewardship of our natural treasures back in the hands of wiser and truly caring people. Thank you again for your continued efforts toward that end. And by the way, enjoy the Outdoor Writer’s Conference. You are all stars.
