Where is commitment?

The Spokesman-Review

In a Seattle Times article (June 3), recently departed West Valley girls basketball coach Paul Voorhees stated: “I’m really excited about being in a bigger high school and the challenge over there.”

Isn’t that what he said when he came to West Valley from a Class B school one year ago? He also said he was excited about forming and building a team.

Is he going to rebuild Kent-Meridian like he did West Valley? By systematically removing all but two of the seniors from the team? Voorhees said only the few and the proud stuck it out. Where is HE now? So much for his lesson on sticking it out. Sounds to me like he disrupted many players’ lives, leaving them with sad memories, only for him to pick up and move on. He expected commitment from his players to the extent of them making life changing choices on what sports they could play. Where was his commitment to this program?

Good luck, Kent-Meridian. After rebuilding West Valley with a 1-19 record he now moves on to a bigger challenge. Every year West Valley school district wants millions of dollars in school bonds. The least they could do is hire coaches with character and integrity.
