More of the Simpsons showing up on MTV

The Simpsons are set to take over MTV.

We’re talking about the flesh-and-blood, five-fingered Simpsons — Jessica and Ashlee — not the yellow-skinned cartoon inhabitants of Springfield.

MTV will use new episodes of Jessica’s show, “Newlyweds,” to help launch a new show about the making of her younger sister’s first album.

“Newlyweds” will return to the cable network’s lineup at 10 p.m. Wednesday. It will be followed by “The Ashlee Simpson Show” at 10:30.

Ashlee Simpson, 19, has co-starred on The WB’s “7th Heaven” for the past two seasons. Her MTV show will let viewers in on the process of recording her first album, “Autobiography,” which will lean more toward rock than her sister’s music does. It will also chronicle her social life, including a breakup that she documents in one of the album’s songs.

The third season of “Newlyweds,” meanwhile, will show Jessica and husband Nick Lachey getting a taste of parenthood when they baby-sit for a friend and Lachey’s quest for time to himself when Jessica’s friend CaCee moves in with them.

There’s no word from MTV on whether the new episodes will deal with the production of Jessica’s ABC sitcom pilot, which did not make that network’s fall schedule.
