Toned-down ‘Sex’ returns on TBS

Rarely is a rerun our pick of the night. But. …

Beginning tonight at 10, TBS brings “Sex and the City” to those of you who aren’t HBO subscribers.

The show, which ended its HBO run this past season, was one of the twin pillars of that channel’s current success, “The Sopranos” being the other. This is a comedy, following the romantic and carnal adventures of New York singles Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).

The parade of guest males included Chris Noth as the legendary Mr. Big, along with John Corbett, Kyle MacLachlan and many, many more. These girls got around.

And that, of course, is an issue. This show broke new ground in, uh, frankness about sexual matters, both verbally and visually. The TBS versions will be edited, reportedly including mild versions of key scenes shot at the same time as the originals.

But still, this isn’t for the kids.

This week two classic episodes will run each night, followed next week by a weekly telecast of the series in chronological order.
