NIC Foundation honors employees

The North Idaho College Foundation recently honored NIC employees at the annual employee awards breakfast.

Nursing Instructor Babette Hess received $1,500 from the NIC Foundation for the Faculty Achievement Award.

Hess has taught in the NIC Nursing Department for 17 years and has more than 30 years experience as a registered nurse. Hess earned a nurse practitioner certification from Gonzaga University while working full time at NIC.

Also, within a year of her employment with the college, Hess returned to working as a staff nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center in the Intensive Care Unit on weekends, holidays and summer vacations to stay current in her field.

Other finalists for the Faculty Achievement Award included NIC Journalism Instructor Nils Rosdahl, a 19-year employee of the college; and Physical Education Instructor Gregory Rouse, a six-year employee of NIC, who were presented checks for $500.

Cathy Matresse, received $500 as the recipient of the new Adjunct Faculty Achievement Award for part-time employees. She is a three-year instructor in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department.

Staff Achievement Awards were given to Nancy Edwards, learning resources senior administrative assistant; Randy Hill, supervisor of the Mail/Copy Center; and Peggy Schnell, senior administrative assistant for the Office of Instruction. Each recipient received $500 for outstanding service.

25-year awards: Walt Carlson, trades and industry division chairman; Kay Nelson, business instructor; and Michael Wolf, physical plant building trades leader.

20-year awards: Judy Adams, math and physics instructor; Joan Coleman, administrative assistant at the Center for New Directions; Jim Cultra, maintenance mechanics/millwright instructor; Richard Gaertner, automotive technology instructor; Michele Jerde, College skills/physical education division chairman; Rolly Jurgens, vice president for administrative services; and Marsha Nead, auxiliary services senior administrative assistant.

15-year awards: Susan Hill Crowley, human services program coordinator; Mary Isaacson, foreign language lab supervisor and German language instructor; Linda Michal, health services director; Erna Rhinehart, director of public relations; Dennie Seymour, workforce training director; and Jim Straub, machine technology instructor.

10-year awards: Judy Bundy, Jennifer Henage, Rodney Joki, Gail Laferriere, Ann Laws, John Lynn, Paul Manzardo, Danny Marsh, Janet Pedersen, Diane Rininger, Dave Stewart, Charles Walker.

Special awards were presented to two Coeur d’Alene campus instructors.

Business professor John Haehl, Ph.D., was recognized with the 2004 President’s Award for Teaching Excellence. He has been with LC for 12 years and currently serves as the North Idaho business coordinator. He earned his degree from UC-Irvine and has managed businesses on national and international levels.

Frank Wilkey, an instructor in the justice studies program, was named Faculty Member of the Year. He has also worked for the Idaho Bureau of Investigation, Idaho Police Academy and Pocatello city police department.
