GRANTS PASS, Ore. – An elderly man shot his wife, then himself, during a visit to a Grants Pass nursing home, authorities said Wednesday.

William Buck, 84, had been visiting his ailing 83-year-old wife, Dorothy, at the Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, said Sgt. Rob Gunderson, a spokesman for the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.

Buck arrived at 8:30 a.m. and wheeled his wife to an outdoor gazebo on the property, Gunderson said.

A neighbor called 911 at 9:10 a.m. to report hearing a shot fired. Staff members at the nursing facility called minutes later and reported a possible shooting.

Authorities found the couple dead from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
