Lambright to undergo surgery

From staff and news service reports

Former University of Washington football coach Jim Lambright will undergo surgery Wednesday to remove his bladder and prostate gland after being diagnosed with bladder cancer.

In April, Lambright underwent a medical procedure to have a tumor removed from his bladder. The surgery will be performed at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Lambright was UW’s head football coach from 1993-98 to cap a 30-year coaching career at the school that began in 1969.

College golf

Matt Kodama, a University of Hawaii senior from Spokane (Mt. Spokane), has received an at-large invitation to the NCAA West Regional men’s tournament May 20-22 in Sunriver, Ore.

Three other former Greater Spokane League golfers – Dan Potter (Gonzaga Prep), Corey Prugh and Alex Prugh (both Ferris) – are members of the 24th-ranked University of Washington team that is seeded eighth in the 27-team field.

Six of the top eight seeds are from the Pac-10, including No. 1 UCLA, which is ranked fifth nationally.
