Shot girl may need emergency surgery

From staff reports

The 13-year-old Spokane girl who was shot Sunday between the eyes may have to undergo emergency surgery to release pressure on her brain, her mother said Wednesday.

Tara Rader, 13, remains in stable condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after she was shot in the face by her 20-year-old boyfriend, who thought the gun was unloaded.

Reza Abghari remains in jail on a charge of second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. He told police that he thought he had completely unloaded a .22-caliber pistol before he aimed it at Rader and pulled the trigger.

Rader’s mother, Lorein Rader, said doctors will determine within the next couple of days whether to conduct the emergency procedure.
