Farmers’ markets opening – Farmers’ markets are starting up for the season, including:

• Spokane Farmers’ Market opens this Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Second Avenue between Browne and Division. Enjoy music by Brad Keeler and a wool spinning demonstration. The market is open Saturdays, and will also be open on Wednesdays beginning mid-June. Free admission. Call 456-0100.

• The Kootenai County Farmers’ Market is now open on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m. at the corner of Highway 95 and Prairie Avenue, Coeur d’Alene. Entertainment this Saturday will be The Successful Hobos featuring Ernest and Grandpa Tunes. Everything is locally grown and crafted. Call (208) 772-2290.

• Moscow Farmers’ Market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m.-noon at Friendship Square, downtown Moscow. Free admission. Call (208) 883-7036.

• Sandpoint Farmers’ Market is held Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3-5:30 p.m. at Farmin Park, Sandpoint. Call (208) 265-7987.

Blooms on the Bluff - The second of two weekends for this 2004 wine and plant event will be Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Gardeners of Spokane will be selling annuals, perennial flowers, vegetables and herbs at Green Bluff orchards. District meeting - Washington State Federation Garden Clubs’ Inland Empire District will have its district meeting today at 10 a.m. at Finch Arboretum. Leisure Lavender Farms will present a program on lavender and there will also be horticulture exhibits on lilacs. Lunch reservations are required; call 448-1726.

Plant sale - Gardeners of Spokane will sell annuals, perennials, vegetables and herbs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays through May 22 at the Hutton Settlement greenhouse on Upriver Drive in Millwood. Call 467-9804.

Manito Park - Rededication of Manito Park to celebrate its centennial will take place Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the park. Call Friends of Manito Park at 456-8038.

Gardeners of Spokane - Monthly meeting will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook. The educational program will feature Stan Urmann speaking on “Blueberry Culture.” He owns the Riley Creek Blueberry Farm in LaClede, Idaho. Call 467-9804.

Deer Park plant sale - The North Country Organic Growers will hold a plant sale on May 22 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Deer Park Fairgrounds. Call 276-2583.

Sundays in the Garden series – The May 23 event will be on “Lilacs of Manito Park” at 2 p.m., at Manito Park’s Manito Meeting Room, east of Gaiser Conservatory. Free admission. Call 456-8038.

Spokane Orchid Society - Monthly meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Manito meeting room. The next meeting will be June 9.
