Arnold, Bradley lead West Valley
Kyle Arnold pitched a five-hitter and Greg Bradley hit a three-run homer Saturday as West Valley qualified for the State 3A baseball playoffs with a 7-3 win over Sunnyside in 3A regional play at Hanford.
Arnold (7-2) struck out five and pitched a complete game. Bradley finished the day 2 for 4, with his three-run blast during a six-run fourth.
The Eagles (11-12) will open state play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Yakima County Stadium against Skyline (16-7).
• Jordan Moore (7-1) pitched a four-hitter, and Chris Kern and Dan Bowman hit consecutive homers in the fourth as Lakeside (17-6) earned the No. 1 seed to the State 2A playoffs with an 8-3 win over Colville in the District 7 2A tournament title game at Nine Mile Falls. Moore struck out six and walked seven. Travis LeCaire of the Indians took his first loss in 10 decisions. Lakeside will open state play at 10 a.m. Saturday at a site to be determined, maybe Shadle Park. … Colville (17-7) bounced back to win the second and final seed to state with an 8-2 win over Pullman. LeCaire hit two-run homers in the second and fourth to stake the Indians to an 8-1 lead. Colville will travel to Selah for a 10 a.m. state opener… . Pullman (17-7) opened the day with a 10-2 win that eliminated Chewelah (12-12). Hunter Simpson pitched a seven-hitter, struck out six, and went 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs.
• Cameron McGregor (7-0) pitched a two-hitter and Nick Ashley hit a solo homer to lead Lind-Ritzville (16-4) to a 5-2 win over Colfax in the District 7 1A tournament title game at Washington State University. McGregor, who walked seven and struck out three, went 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Jared Olson’s RBI single in the fifth snapped a 2-all tie. Jameson Maj struck out nine and walked none for the two-time defending state champion Bulldogs… . Also at the tourney, Kettle Falls notched a 3-1 win that eliminated Freeman (12-10)… . The winner-to-state game matching Colfax and Kettle Falls wasn’t reported.
• DeSales (17-3) defeated Touchet 11-0 in the championship game of the District 9 B tournament at Dust Devils Stadium in Pasco. The Irish will open state play at 10 a.m. Saturday at Walla Walla’s Borleske Stadium against the District 6 No. 2. Touchet (15-7) will play the District 7 No. 4 at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rogers. Liberty Christian (15-7) earned the No. 3 seed with a 2-1 win that knocked out Asotin (16-5). LC will play the District 7 No. 2 at 1 p.m. Saturday at Borleske.
