Events planned for park’s centennial

Here are some upcoming Manito Park Centennial events:

• Wednesday, 11 a.m.: Rededication of Manito Park, with Mayor Jim West and other city officials, in the Joel E. Ferris Perennial Garden. Free.

• May 23, 2 p.m.: “Lilacs of Manito Park,” Manito Park Garden Center meeting room. Free for The Friends of Manito members, $5 for nonmembers

• May 26, 7:30 p.m.: Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave., authors Tony and Suzanne Bamonte will read from “Manito Park: A Reflection of Spokane’s Past” and documentary producers Robin Briley and Jim Bolser will discuss their DVD based on the book. Free.

• June 13, 2 p.m.: “History and Tour of the Japanese Garden,” Manito Park Garden Center meeting room. Free for The Friends of Manito members, $5 for nonmembers.

• July 11, 2 p.m.: “History and Tour of Rose Hill,” Manito Park’s Rose Hill. Free for The Friends of Manito members, $5 for nonmembers.

• Aug. 8, 2 p.m.: “History and Tour of Duncan Garden,” Duncan Garden. Free for The Friends of Manito members, $5 for nonmembers.

• Aug. 14, 1-4 p.m.: Centennial Celebration and Ice Cream Social, throughout the park. Free.
