WSU, UW earn berths in rowing finals

Washington State, Washington and California will represent the Pacific-10 Conference at the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships from May 28-30 on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

Cal is the nation’s top-ranked team. The Huskies made the field as the No. 2 seed from the West Region. Southern Cal received one of four at-large berths for the varsity 8 race only.

Also invited are: Brown, Harvard, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Princeton, Virginia, Wisconsin and Yale.

Harvard is the defending champion.

Huskies women golfer’s 18th

The 12th-ranked Washington Huskies carded a 17-over-par 305 and stand in 18th place at the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Ala.

Sophomore Paige Mackenzie paced UW with a 1-over 73.

Oklahoma State shot an even-par 288 to grab the first-day lead.

Grizzlies on the barbie

University of Montana fans from the Inland Northwest are invited to a barbecue at Liberty Lake on Saturday with Grizzlies coaches and athletes from Eastern Washington and the Idaho Panhandle. There will be prizes, contests, kid games, a silent auction and cool Griz gear.

The 4-hour event kicks off at 2 p.m. in Pavilion Park.

Advance tickets can be purchased at George Gee Auto in Liberty Lake, Quality Inn of Spokane Valley, Edwards Lalone Travel in downtown Spokane, Jewelry Design Center North side or Bank of America South Hill. Tickets will also be sold at the event.

North Idaho’s Silva signs

North Idaho College heavyweight Israel Silva has signed to wrestle for Tennessee-Chattanooga, Cardinals coach Pat Whitcomb said.
