Mets 9, Rockies 7: At New York, Mike Piazza homered and Danny Garcia had two of New York’s nine doubles in its win against Colorado. Matt Ginter (1-0) got his first win as a starter, and Jason Phillips added two doubles for the Mets.

Braves 2, Dodgers 0: At Atlanta, Chipper Jones homered in the seventh to break up a scoreless duel between Russ Ortiz and Odalis Perez, and Atlanta handed Los Angeles its eighth straight loss. It is the Dodgers’ longest slide since June 1992, when the team dropped 10 straight.

Giants 6, Expos 5: At San Juan, Puerto Rico, Barry Bonds drew a leadoff walk to spark a six-run seventh inning that carried San Francisco over Montreal.

Phillies 5, Padres 4: At Philadelphia, Chase Utley had three RBIs, including a go-ahead single in the eighth inning that capped a comeback from a three-run deficit for Philadelphia, in its win over San Diego.

Reds 7, Astros 4: At Cincinnati, Ken Griffey Jr.’s slump-breaking double keyed a five-run rally in the seventh inning for Cincinnati as the Reds defeated Houston.

Cardinals 7, Cubs 6: At Chicago, Albert Pujols and Jim Edmonds hit consecutive home runs and St. Louis beat Chicago. Moises Alou hit a late homer for the third straight day, connecting for a three-run shot in the Cubs’ seventh.

Marlins 6, Diamondbacks 5 (10): At Miami, Mike Redmond drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run as Florida beat Arizona. Armando Benitez (1-0) walked three in a scoreless 10th for the win.

Brewers at Pirates (ppd.): At Pittsburgh, the opener of a three-game series between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates was postponed because of expected 70 mph winds and thunderstorms. It will be made up as part of doubleheader July 2 at 5:05 p.m.
