Three Sasquatch honored
Outfielder Hannah Shelley, pitcher Kate Sinnott and coach Janet Skaife of Community Colleges of Spokane picked up the big awards on the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges East Division softball all-conference team, announced Wednesday.
Shelley was named most valuable player, Sinnott most valuable pitcher, and Skaife was tabbed as coach of the year.
Other Sasquatch named to the first team: outfielder Vanessa Shelton, second baseman Mindy Morgan and utility Stefani Hertz. Third baseman Aubrie May was selected to the second team.
Men’s tennis
Tenth-ranked Alex Vlaski and No. 25 Alex Slovic of the University of Washington won their opening-round matches as the NCAA Singles Championship began at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Vlaski swept past No. 58 Jeff Kader of William & Mary 7-5, 7-6. Slovic rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 win over No. 45 Erik Nyman of Brigham Young.
