WILDLIFE EDUCATION

Sandpoint center benefits

The Waterlife Discovery Center at the Sandpoint Fish Hatchery is another step closer to completion with a donation of more than $8,000 from a fundraiser by the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

For the first time, the fourteenth annual radio auction that aired last month was dedicated to a North Idaho project, although the auction was heard only on three stations in Southern Idaho.

Clear Channel Radio Network stations covering North Idaho did not carry the auction in which listeners bid on 23 outdoor adventures such as rafting or fishing trips.

Treasure Valley resident Julie Moldenhauer won a trip to ride with conservation officers on an Salmon River enforcement patrol. Officers will check fishing licenses and jet boat registrations and monitor bighorn sheep.

The funds directed to North Idaho will be used for a teaching amphitheater and a viewing courtyard at the Sandpoint Hatchery.

WHITEWATER RAFTING

Go with the flow

With the snowpack fading fast, whitewater rafting companies are warning customers that they shouldn’t procrastinate. The runoff could be over quickly on some rivers.

River Odysseys West based in Coeur d’Alene is offering special deals on some of the regions most exciting rivers with a reputation for short whitewater windows.

For example, bring five rafters for a one-day wild ride on the Lochsa River and the sixth person is free.
