Delbert Roberts

Spokane

Funeral for Delbert E. Roberts, 79, will be today at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Roberts, who died Sunday, was born in Selfridge, N.D.

He grew up in Missoula, where he attended high school.

Mr. Roberts served in the Army during World War II and worked 40 years with a railroad as a chief rate clerk. He was a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and the Dots and Dashes Telegraphers Club.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marie; two daughters, Karen Gephart of Salem, Ore., and Mardel Coombs of Lone Tree, Colo.; a son, Kerry Roberts of Muskogee, Okla.; five sisters, Lois Pendleton, Connie Hodgeson, Prudy Antles, Pat Barker and Orma Donovan; four brothers, Harold, Joel, Ivan and Tad Roberts; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the First Assembly of God Missions Fund.

Carolyne Perry

Spokane

Funeral Mass for Carolyne M. Perry, 90, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Perry, who was born in Potlatch, Idaho, died Tuesday. She was a resident of the Spokane area for 77 years.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Philomathia, Jesuit Mothers and the Altar Society and was a volunteer at Maplewood Gardens. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and making ceramics for numerous family members

She also gave many Jesuits ceramic chalices she had made and painted.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Ross Perry.

Survivors include two sons, Doug Perry of Fox Island, Wash., and Ron Perry of Seattle; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Lewis Daugherty

Spokane

Memorial service for Lewis L. Daugherty, 47, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Daugherty, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died Sunday.

He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1975 and worked as a pipe fitter for 17 years, retiring from Inland Empire Fire Protection in 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Michele; a daughter, Ashley Modrell; a stepdaughter, Karin Hansen; a stepson, Rob Severino, his mother, Joyce Daugherty, and two sisters, Colleen Reeves and Nancy Krueger, all of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Leila ‘Lee’ (Johnson) O’Briant

Spokane

Graveside service for Leila “Lee” (Johnson) O’Briant, 80, will be today at 2 p.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. O’Briant, who was born in St. Maries, died Tuesday.

She was a 30-year resident of Spokane.

She enjoyed traveling to the Oregon Coast, riding snowmobiles and cooking.

Mrs. O’Briant’s favorite time of year was the holidays, and she liked decorating, baking and making her popular Christmas carrot pudding.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jack.”

Survivors include three children, Sandy Nicolson of Spokane, Bob Willson of Auburn, Wash., and Kelly O’Brien of Kennewick; two brothers, Frank Johnson of Chandler, Ariz., and Bill Johnson of Bellingham; a sister, Elaine Sparhawk of Seattle; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Opal Church

Deer Park

Funeral for Opal Lucille Church, 89, will be today at noon at the United Methodist Church in Deer Park. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane at 3 p.m., immediately following the funeral. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Church, who was born in Inman, Kan., died Sunday.

She and her husband moved to Deer Park in 1947. Mrs. Church was a cook, dietitian and food supervisor, having worked at the Deer Park Hospital, Lakeland Village and in Goldendale, Wash.

She was a 58-year member of the United Methodist Church in Deer Park was very active in Order of the Eastern Star and assisted with Job’s Daughters in Deer Park.

Her husband, Marvin Church, died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Church of Deer Park; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Laura ‘Rosy’ Bentley

Post Falls

Memorial service for Laura Roseanne “Rosy” Bentley, 66, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Bible Church in Post Falls. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Bentley, who was born in Wallace, died Friday.

She grew up in Mullan, Idaho, and moved to Post Falls 28 years ago.

Miss Bentley attended Mountain View Bible Church and enjoyed music and traveling.

Survivors include three sisters, Norma Kellinger of Los Angeles, and Eloise Swanson and Donna Bodenman, both of Post Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John Bettis

Post Falls

Funeral for John K. Bettis, 79, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bettis, who was born in Raton, N.M., died Sunday.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 1985.

He enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Yuma, Ariz., and summers ocean fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nellie; two sons, Ken Bettis of Hayden, Idaho, and Kevin Bettis of Post Falls; two daughters, Paula LaFontaine of Portland and Patti Wright of Spokane; three brothers, Wayne, Patrick and Jim; two sisters, Mildred and Mona; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Lucille Corcoran

Spokane

Memorial service for Lucille Corcoran, 98, will be at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Corcoran, who was born in Dallas County, Ore., died Friday.

She grew up in Garden Grove, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in nursing.

She moved to Spokane and worked as a nurse at Edgecliff Tuberculosis Hospital. During that time she met and married John Corcoran.

Mrs. Corcoran was a homemaker for 15 years and enjoyed cooking, gardening, home decorating and entertaining.

She returned to nursing in 1952 and worked in the Paulsen Building Hospital for 25 years.

Her husband died in 1977.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Uht and Paula Johnson, both of Spokane; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Helen (LaChapelle) Guerrero

Post Falls

Mass for Helen D. (LaChapelle) Guerrero, 85, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church in Post Falls with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. English Funeral chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Guerrero died Sunday.

She was born and raised in Spokane and married Frank Guerrero.

She moved to Post Falls in 1984.

Mrs. Guerrero was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting.

She was a member of St. George’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Michael McGhee of Pinehurst, Idaho, Jeff Cook of Post Falls and Tom Cook of Spokane; two sisters, Francis Pelle of Spokane and Shirley Pappas of Michigan; and five grandchildren.

Russ Daffern

Spokane Valley

Memorial service for Russ Daffern, 58, was Monday in Spokane.

Mr. Daffern, who was born in Sweetwater, Texas, died Oct. 28. He was a resident of Spokane for 12 years.

He graduated from Roswell High School in Roswell, N.M., in 1964, and attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.

He married Nancy Perrell in 1986.

Mr. Daffern worked as a transportation safety supervisor for Flying J for more than 20 years.

His hobbies included rebuilding cars and racing stock cars.

Survivors include two daughters, Lezlie Samuels of Des Moines, Iowa, and Rena Scott of Seattle; three sons, Troey Daffern of Roswell, N.M., and Mike and Russell Daffern, both of Spokane; his parents, Troey and Wilda Daffern of Spokane; a sister, Sue Daffern of Lewiston; and six grandchildren.

Robert McLean

Spokane Valley

Visitation for Robert F. McLean, 71, will be today and Fridayfrom 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. McLean died Friday.

He was born in Cheney and attended school in Medical Lake. For the past seven years he had been a driver for Dealer Auto Auction.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Shirley; six sons, Robert Jr., Samuel, Timothy, Brian, Bruce and Todd McLean, all of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Pamela Stange of

Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Dorothy Rodenbaugh of Spokane; two brothers, Ernest McLean of Seaside, Calif., and James McLean of Hesperia, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Michael Anderson

St. Maries

Celebration of life for Michael M. Anderson, 62, will be at a later date. Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Anderson, who was born in Kaneohi, Hawaii, died last Thursday.

He lived in Memphis, Tenn., with his family prior to moving to Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Anderson served with the Marine Corps Reserve from 1960 to 1964 and married Adrianne Christensen in 1961.

He moved to St. Maries in 1964 and worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a civil engineering technician in the St. Joe National Forest. He retired in 1994 after 31 years of service.

He then worked on the construction of the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes bicycle path.

Mr. Anderson enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, playing cards and rock-hounding.

Mr. Anderson also enjoyed watching family members play sports and liked to travel, especially to Alaska.

He was a member of the Gold Prospecting Association of America.

Survivors include his wife ; two sons, Michael Anderson of Coeur d’Alene and William Anderson of St. Maries; a brother, Bill Anderson of St. Maries; two sisters, Dawn Webster of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Kathleen Hughes of Priest River, Idaho; and four grandchildren.
