Animal rescue groups to appear at weekend fair

A variety of information on pets, pet products, seminars and clinics, and veterinary care will be available at Susan Rae’s Animal Fair 2004 held at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center next weekend.

Local rescue groups will be in attendance at the all-animal trade show with a variety of animals searching for homes. Entertainment will composed of a fat cat contest, animal fashion show, pet tricks show, costume contest and wiener dog races.

In conjunction with the show, the Northwest Australian Shepherds Association will hold its “Harvest Howler” dog show, and the Lilac City Dog Training Club will present a Kids and Animal Safety Carnival.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for pets, and free for children 10 and under.

Breakfast

Transitions’ second annual “People Who Care Helping Women Who Dare” breakfast will be Tuesday.

The event, at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., will include a performance by the children of Transitions’ Educare program, a reflection given by Deanna King, a resident at the Transitional Living Center, and lecture by Maureen Cosgrove, site manager at Transitions’ Miryam’s House.

Food Drive

St. Vincent de Paul of Spokane will hold a food drive on Friday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Frozen turkeys, hams and nonperishable food items are needed in an effort to help feed the more than 5,000 Spokane-area residents who visit the food bank each month.

Items may be dropped off at these locations: Yoke’s Pac N’ Save in Airway Heights; Chevron on the corner of Division and Wellesley; the Spokane Valley Mall near Staples; and the turnout in Riverfront Park on Spokane Falls Boulevard.

Plant sale fund-raiser

As a benefit for the 2005 Ferris High School Senior All-nighter, holiday plants are on sale through Nov. 19. Poinsettias, wreaths, centerpieces and garland are available by contacting Kay at 534-5343 or Elizabeth at 448-2463.

Orders will be available for pickup at the high school, 3020 E. 37th Ave., Dec. 3. Orders over $100 will be delivered free of charge.
