Willamette greets Pirates with 557 yards

Quentin Brock scored three touchdowns and Cameron Walton threw for 246 yards as Willamette piled up 557 yards of total offense in defeating Whitworth 28-17 in a Northwest Conference game Saturday at McCulloch Field in Salem, Ore.

Willamette (7-2 overall, 4-0 NWC) set up a title game against No. 2 Linfield College on Saturday in McMinnville, Ore. Whitworth fell to 6-2, 2-2. The Pirates host Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, with the winner earning third place in the conference.

Brock scored all three of his touchdowns in the game’s final 17 minutes. He rushed for 146 yards on 24 carries as the Bearcats came back from a 10-7 halftime deficit.

Whitworth used a 20-yard field goal from Cam Collings and a 4-yard TD pass from Joel Clark to Kyle Snell to take a 10-7 halftime lead.

Chris Ahsing scored on a 1-yard TD run for Whitworth’s only score in the second half.

Whitworth had 435 yards of total offense. The Pirates had 207 yards rushing, to 246 for Willamette.

PLU 42, Menlo College 21

In Atherton, Calif., the Lutes piled up a season-best 570 yards of total offense and pulled away in the second half for the non-conference victory over the Oaks (1-6).

The Lutes (6-2) gained 352 yards on the ground and added 228 yards in passing.

WWU 55, Humboldt 20

In Arcata, Calif., the Western Washington University Vikings scored on their first six possessions and went on to defeat the Lumberjacks (5-5, 3-3) in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Redwood Bowl that concluded the season for both schools.

Wide receiver Andy Olson and running back Jake Carlyle each had two touchdowns for Western (6-4, 3-3).

CWU 26, Western Oregon 21

Brian Baugh threw for a touchdown and ran for another as the Central Washington University Wildcats (7-4, 5-1 GNAC) held off a late surge by the Wolves (1-9, 1-5) to preserve the win at Monmouth, Ore.
