Chang torches Vandals with six scoring passes

Timmy Chang threw six touchdown passes, four coming in the second quarter, and the Hawaii Warriors romped to a 52-21 non-conference victory over the Idaho Vandals on Saturday night in Honolulu.

The Vandals jumped to a 14-10 lead in the first quarter on the strength of a pair of touchdown passes.

Michael Harrington’s pass to Bobby Bernal-Wood from eight yards out gave Idaho a 7-3 lead. Then, after Chang’s 27-yard scoring strike to Jason Rivers gave Hawaii a 10-7 lead, the Vandals moved back out front when Christian Populis connected with Desmond Belton from 26 yards out with 5:08 remaining in the quarter.

Chang gave the Warriors (5-5) the lead for good when he hooked up with Rivers from 22 yards out. He also had scoring strikes of 16 yards to Rivers, 13 yards to Britton Komine and a 15-yarder to Rivers.

Idaho’s final touchdown came with 4:02 remaining in the first half on a 14-yard pass from Harrington to Bernal-Wood.

Chang’s last TD pass came in the third quarter – an 11-yarder to Gerald Welch.

Robby Farmer and Derrick Ansley both intercepted passes and returned them for touchdowns in the third quarto help the Trojans (7-4, 5-2 Sun Belt) turn what had been a tight game into a romp over the Blue Raiders (5-6, 4-4) in Troy, Ala.

La.-Monroe 13, La.-Lafayette 10

Ragan Walters kicked the game-winning field goal with seven seconds left in the game as the Indians (5-6, 4-3) beat the Ragin’ Cajuns (4-7, 2-5) in Monroe, La.

Utah St. 34, New Mexico St. 25

Chris Forbes rushed for a career-high 131 yards and two touchdowns, helping Utah State win the battle between the Aggies in Logan, Utah.
