Irish tenor Kearns in concert

Anthony Kearns, one of the famed Irish Tenors, will give a solo concert Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. at the Spokane Opera House to benefit Our Lady of Guadalupe School, 3914 N. Lidgerwood St.

Wine tasting and auction

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., is hosting “Toasting and Tasting,” its fourth annual wine tasting and auction, today.

Local wineries are featured this year and the vintners will be on hand from 7 to 10 p.m. to discuss their wines. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be both silent and oral auctions.

Rummage sales

Trinity United Methodist Church, 1725 E. Bridgeport Ave., is hosting a rummage and book sale today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Catholicism inquiry class

The parish of St. Thomas More, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way, is offering inquiry classes for anyone interested in the Catholic faith.

EXP worship service

Covenant Christian Church, 5616 S. Palouse Highway, is offering a new form of worship service on Sunday at 7 p.m.

The EXP Worship can only be attempted in the dark and promises to be loud, quiet, deep and wide. It also features original music. For more information, call the church office at 448-1311.

St. Francis Day

• In celebration of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is hosting a Blessing of the Animals on Sunday.

Pets can sit with their families at the 8:30 a.m. service and can come forward to be blessed. The Spokane Humane Society also will be on hand with animals that are available to adopt.

Lecture on the Feasts of Israel

Ron Cantrell of Shalom, Shalom Jerusalem Ministries will speak about the Feasts of Israel and his experiences living in Israel next weekend at Lincoln Heights Congregational Church.

Christian writers’ workshop

The Northwest Christian Writers’ Advance Seminar will run Friday and Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at New Life Community Church, 7352 N. Government Way, Dalton Gardens, Idaho.

Humanist annual banquet

The Humanist Focus Group is holding its annual banquet on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Empire Room of the WestCoast Ridpath Hotel, 515 W. Sprague Ave.

Book signing

Mead High School teacher Jim Deniston will read from and sign his book “Bubbles, Spangles and Liverwurst,” about his experiences as a volunteer in downtown Spokane, on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Lutheran Book Parlor, 1414 W. Broadway Ave.

The book includes stories, poems and reflections. The event is free.
