The Spokesman-Review

A letter, published Sunday under the headline “Smoking’s toll overstated,” harshly criticized the writer of a letter that had appeared on Sept. 25. Some clarification is in order.

Although the first letter dealt critically with tobacco in any form, the headline that appeared over it was, “Smokers worsen health-care crisis.” The writer of Sunday’s letter, possibly influenced by the headline, focused only on the smoking aspect of the issue.
