Kiefer, Dornan guide North Idaho volleyball to sweep of Big Bend

Kara Kiefer totaled match highs of nine kills, 21 digs and six aces Wednesday while leading North Idaho College to a 30-14, 30-25, 30-17 non-conference volleyball sweep of visiting Big Bend Community College.

Collese Dornan added 28 assists and three blocks for the Cardinals (20-13). Rachel Roylance had seven kills for the Vikings.

•Natalie Danielson and Julie Marsh combined for 27 kills, and Whitney Murphy added 16 digs to lead Whitworth (12-3, 5-2) to a 3-0 sweep over visiting Whitman (4-11, 2-5).

Marsh and Holly Coleman added 14 digs apiece for the Pirates.

•At Spokane Falls CC, Jennifer Woelk had 13 kills and hit .353 as Community Colleges of Spokane (16-10, 5-0) swept Walla Walla CC 30-26, 30-27, 30-23 in a matchup of the top two teams in the East Division of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Jessica Barbour added 11 digs and 10 kills for the Sasquatch.

Women’s soccer

Ariel Roop scored in the 68th and 77th minutes to give North Idaho (7-5, 6-3 NWAACC Northeast) a 3-1 win over visiting Wenatchee Valley (1-7 conference).

Men’s soccer

Jamie Richards and Eder Barajas scored two goals apiece to lead visiting Wenatchee Valley (5-3 NWAACC Northeast) to a 5-4 win at second-place North Idaho (7-2-2, 6-2-1).

Peter Heil had one goal and one assist for NIC.

Cross country

Idaho junior Mary Kamau was chosen Big West Conference athlete of the week for her performance at last weekend’s Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore.

Kamau won the 5,000-meter race in a time of 17 minutes, 6.15 seconds to lead the Vandals to the team title.
