M’s need new broadcasters

The Spokesman-Review

Now that the baseball season is over, the Mariners are obviously going to do some “house cleaning.” I hope they do some “cleaning” at the level of TV announcers. Ron Fairly has to be as bad as any announcer I have heard at any level. He is repetitive, redundant, says the obvious and is commonly wrong. If you remove his favorite phrase, “There’s no question about that,” he would be a man of few words.

Dave Niehaus is getting some of Fairly’s bad habits. Also, I was very disappointed in his “performance” at the Edgar Martinez celebration. For a man who is supposed to be as accomplished as he is, and for the obvious importance of the occasion, I would have thought he would take the time and effort, and have the ability to memorize at least some of his presentation and not read 99 percent of it.
