Schultz new pro at Esmeralda
Rex Schultz, first assistant at Esmeralda Golf Course for 18 years, has been named new head professional at the course by the Spokane Park Board.
Schultz, a 1986 graduate of Washington State University, will replace Bill Warner, who will retire Dec. 31 after 37 years in the position. Schultz is slated to take over on Jan. 1.
“I’m excited about the opportunity. It’s going to be fun,” said Schultz.
He said plans are “to try to modernize some stuff and make the place a little more exciting to be around.” Among the first upgrades, he said, will be to bring in a new fleet of carts and improve the driving range.
“We’d like to do a little bit of something every year,” he said.
Schultz, who competed on the golf team at WSU, is president of the Inland Empire PGA and serves on the board of directors of the Pacific Northwest PGA. He was selected the Inland Empire PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 2003 by his peers.
