Yes, Kelly Osbourne is Ozzy’s daughter
Q: Is the Kelly Osbourne on the new (ABC) show “Life as We Know It” related to Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne? I understand she’s their daughter, but I’ve also heard that she’s not. — Josefa D.
A: Kelly Osbourne of “Life as We Know It” is, indeed, a daughter of rock star Ozzy Osbourne and talk-show host Sharon Osbourne. She made her solo performance breakthrough on the MTV Video Music Awards show with her hit punk version of Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach.” And although she intends to stay with her music, she says she wants to develop her acting career and eventually do films.
Q: I just read that Maria Shriver’s brother will be running for office in Los Angeles. My question is, will he run as a Democrat or a Republican since Maria Shriver’s husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is the Republican governor? Also, if he goes as a Democrat, will Maria support him? — George K.
A: Bobby Shriver has indicated his intention to run for a seat on the city council in Santa Monica. Maria was at his side when he made his announcement. While the seat is non-partisan, the Democratic Party has endorsed him, as has the city’s usually Republican-supporting firefighters association. And for the record, Bobby Shriver works in his brother-in-law’s administration as chairman of the California State Parks and Recreation Commission.
Q: I’m a big admirer of Doris Roberts, who plays Marie Barone on the CBS series “Everybody Loves Raymond.” I have two questions about her: First, what is her mysterious connection to the late James Dean? And second, is she related to the show’s star, Ray Romano (Ray Barone)? — Leanne D.
A: Doris Roberts’ connection to James Dean can be found in the real estate records for Los Angeles. To wit: Several years ago she bought and still lives in the late actor’s house.
Doris Roberts and Ray Romano are not related. Roberts’ son with her first husband is Michael Cannata, who is her manager. Roberts was married to her second husband, novelist, screenwriter and composer William Goyen, from 1963 to his death in 1983.
Q: On “Father of the Pride” (NBC), I know that it’s John Goodman’s voice as the lion, Larry. But (I had heard that) before the actress (Cheryl Hines) who plays his wife, Kate, got the role, NBC wanted to hire Roseanne, who was Goodman’s co-star on the old “Roseanne” show, to do the voice. Any truth to that? — Tom M.
A: I had heard that rumor before the first episode aired in early September. But from what I’ve been told, Roseanne was never approached about doing the character. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone at a meeting or in a more informal setting may have offered the suggestion that reuniting Goodman and Roseanne could be a good idea. If so, that’s as far as it may have gone.
