Fay (Marks) Carstens

Pullman

Memorial service for Fay (Marks) Carstens, 75, will be today at 11 a.m. at Kimball Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carstens, a longtime Pullman resident, died Monday.

She was born in Council, Idaho, where she grew up and attended school. As a young adult, she moved to Lewiston.

She moved to the Garfield/Pullman area in 1954, and while working at Washington State University, met Kenneth Grinner. She married him that year.

Mrs. Carstens was a homemaker and also worked at WSU in food services and housekeeping.

Her husband died in 1970.

In 1975 she married Lloyd Carstens in Onaway, Idaho, and they settled in Pullman.

Mrs. Carstens enjoyed riding horses, and competed in barrel races at area rodeos. She raised and sold purebred rag doll cats and toy poodles.

She was a member of the Pullman Senior Center and Whelan Grange. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross Pullman and Moscow, and the Avalon Care Center in Pullman.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ken Grinner of Anchorage, Alaska and Wes Grinner of Garfield; a brother, Leroy Marks of Onaway; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Barbara ‘Bobbee’ Anderson

Spokane

A gathering for Barbara J. “Bobbee” Anderson, 79, will be Saturday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute, Fosseen Room, 4000 W. Randolph Road. Spokane Cremation and Burial service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anderson died Saturday. Born in Kelso, Wash., she moved to Spokane as a child. She attended Lewis and Clark High School.

In the 1950s she and her husband enjoyed stock car racing and raced stock cars at the Stadium and Mead race tracks. She was a member of the HAM Radio Club for several years, the ONO club and the Sweet Adelines of Spokane. She also was in a barber shop singing group.

She bowled on many teams at Diamond Bowl and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Her husband of 58 years, Leon, died in 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Lee Anderson of Chattaroy and Larry Anderson of Mead; a daughter, Lynn Vig of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard Moffatt

Spokane

Memorial service for Richard Lee “Dick” Moffatt, 57, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Manito Presbyterian Church. A wake will follow at Percy’s Cafe, 10502 E. Sprague Ave. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moffatt, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Monday. He was a resident of the Spokane area for more than 50 years.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1965. He attended Washington State University, World Campus Afloat and traveled around the world twice while studying business courses.

Mr. Moffatt started training horses when he was 16, and also raised champion collies and shelties.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Leora Moffatt Potts and Melvin Potts of Spokane; a brother, Ron Moffatt, and a sister, Susan Moffatt Bridgeman, both of Spokane.

Steven Seppala

Sandpoint

Visitation for Steven Wayne Seppala, 43, will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sandpoint First Christian Church, with burial at Pack River Cemetery.

Mr. Seppala, who was born in Cloquet, Minn., died Saturday in a hunting accident near Avery, Idaho.

He attended grade school in Cloquet and moved to Sandpoint in 1973. He graduated from high school in Sandpoint 1979.

Mr. Seppala worked for a year and then returned to Sandpoint and was worked in construction until 1989. He had worked for Woods Crushing and Hauling. He also managed Bonners Ferry Ready-Mix.

He married Mary Carlson in 1986, and they had two daughters.

Mr. Seppala enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Hillary and Kayla; his parents, Melvin and Joyce Seppala of Sandpoint; two brothers, Ross Seppala of Boise and Kevin Seppala of Sandpoint; and a sister, Lynnae Reed of Sandpoint.

Robert Indgjerd

Spokane

Visitation for Robert W. Indgjerd, 80, will be today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral will be Saturdayat 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Indgjerd died Tuesday.

A lifelong resident of Spokane, he served in the Air Force during World War II and was a driver/salesman for Boge’s Bakery prior to his retirement.

He was involved with Boy Scouts and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He headed the Gonzaga Prep Parents Association and served on the board of the Spokane Jazz Society.

Mr. Indgjerd was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge and served as president of the Odin Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and skiing.

He was preceded in death by Donna Marie, his wife of 42 years.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; three sons, Steven, Dan and Jack; a sister, Rita Kantjas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Isabella Wherry

Spokane

Vigil for Isabella Wherry, 100, will be today at 6:30 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Mrs. Wherry, who was born in Portsmouth, N.H., died Tuesday. She was a resident Spokane for 22 years.

She was a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the government and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by a son, Richard Murphy Jr. , and two daughters: Colleen Black and Eileen Murphy, all of Spokane; a sister, Sara Oglesby of Virginia; and two grandchildren.

Bruce Johnson

Spokane

Memorial service for Bruce Alan Johnson, 61, will be held at Studio K. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died Sept. 29.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1963 and worked as an electrician.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Leonard and Rita Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; and two sisters, Peggy Parrish and Bonnie Bullock, both of Vancouver, Wash.

Roland ‘Carl’ Spencer

Spokane

No service will be held for Roland “Carl” Spencer, 88. Neptune Society handled the arrangements.

Mr. Spencer died Oct. 7. He was born and raised in Tulsa, Okla.

He moved to Montana, where he married June Beam in 1949. They lived in Lewistown, Mont., briefly before moving to Missoula.

Mr. Spencer worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and the state of Montana for many years. After moving to Spokane in 1981, he enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels.

He was a member of amateur radio clubs, the Swingola square dance club and was interested in miniature railroading.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ron Spencer of Seattle; a daughter, Nadine Gortsema, and a stepson, Brad Gunn, both of Spokane; a sister, Buelah Duffner of Great Falls; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

Carroll Johnson

Spokane

Memorial service for Carroll Johnson, 80, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Northview Bible Church, 13521 N. Mill Road. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died Saturday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and served in the Army during World War II.

He attended Washington State University before beginning his career as a mortgage banker for Old National Bank. He later became president of Compass Group, investing union pension trust funds in various commercial real estate development projects in Washington, Idaho and Montana.

He attended Northview Bible Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Frances; two children, Cheryl Strandy of Spokane and Jill Johnson of Renton, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northview Bible Church or the Union Gospel Mission.

William Ferencz

Hayden, Idaho

Memorial Mass for William Albert Ferencz, 60, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, with burial at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens followed by a reception at the church. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ferencz, who was born in Los Angeles, died Oct. 12.

He moved to North Idaho in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Helen “Dee Dee”; a son, Matthew Ferencz of Hayden; a sister, Starlette Ferencz of Arleta, Calif.; and a half-brother, Allan Dunn of Du Quoin, Ill.

Maxine Barry

Spokane

Memorial service for Maxine Fern Barry, 77, will be today at 1 p.m. at Life Center Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barry, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

A longtime resident of Spokane, Mrs. Barry was a homemaker.

Her husband, James, died in 1998.

Survivors include her companion, Ted Wells; a brother, Glen Jorges; and a granddaughter, Wendy Crabb; all of Spokane; and one great-grandson.

Darrel Haugen

Spokane

Memorial service for Darrel Haugen, 64, will be today at 1 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in the Sunset Chapel. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haugen, who was born in Plentywood, Mont., died Sunday.

He married Carolyn Neibauer in 1959 in Billings. They moved to Spokane during the 1960s.

Mr. Haugen owned Lincoln Container and Packaging for many years.

He and his wife were avid golfers who ran their own golf tournament for 13 years.

Mr. Haugen also enjoyed his antique cars and maintaining his river-side home and yard.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David; a daughter, Jill; and five grandchildren.

Mildred Day

Spokane

Memorial service for Mildred B. Day, 90, will be today at 2 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Day, who died Monday, was born in Barnesville, Minn.

She was an executive housekeeper and was a longtime resident of Spokane.

Her husband of 42 years, Donald, died in 1982.

Survivors include a son, James Day of Spokane Valley; a daughter, Judy Smith of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a sister, Ione Sweezil of Townsend, Mont.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Buster Moore

Liberty Lake

Memorial service for Buster Moore, 85, will be today at 11 a.m. at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore, a longtime resident of the Spokane area, died Monday. He was born in Turkey, Texas.

He was an engineer for the state of California Water and Highway Department, and was a member of Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Polly; a daughter, Diana Cox of Tumwater, Wash.; two sisters, Thelma Dunn of Sonora, Calif., and Lois Nixon of Redding, Calif.; two brothers, Jim Moore of Redding and Bob Moore of Anaheim, Calif.; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Henry ‘Pete’ Crisler

Spokane

Funeral Mass for Henry V. “Pete” Crisler, 82, will be today at 11 a.m. at Mary Queen Roman Catholic Church, with burial service to be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crisler, a longtime resident of Spokane, died Sunday. He was born in St. John, N.D.

He was a sheet metal worker.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Catherine; a son, Henry Crisler of Spokane; a daughter, Joanna Foltz of New Orleans; a brother, Louis Crisler of Idaho; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Loreine Koslowsky

Spokane

Memorial service for Loreine S. Koslowsky, 85, will be today at 4 p.m. at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home.

Mrs. Koslowsky, who died Saturday, was born and raised in Cheney.

She attended Cheney High School and graduated from Washington State University in 1941 with a degree in home economics.

She served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 at Baxter General Hospital.

She married Henry Koslowsky in the mid-1940s.

Mrs. Koslowsky worked as a registered dietician in hospitals and nursing homes in Spokane, and was a member of the American Dieticians Association.

Her husband died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Marq Koslowsky of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Care Center.

Doris (Coleman) Martin

Spokane

Memorial service for Doris Mae (Coleman) Martin, 79, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

She lived in Middletown, N.J., for 28 years and was a resident of Spokane for 31 years.

She attended Mead High School.

Mrs. Martin worked as a cook in nursing homes, retiring in 1987. She also ran a boarding home.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking and was a Girl Scout leader.

Her husband of 28 years, William, died in 1974.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Martin of Spokane and Carol St. Clair of Mead; two brothers, Frank Coleman of Belfair, Wash., and Bobby Coleman of Spokane; a sister, Ruth Seidel of Deer Park; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marjorie (Pollock) Hegna

Spokane

Memorial service for Marjorie Fern (Pollock) Hegna, 86, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hegna, a 56-year resident of Spokane, died Saturday. She was born in Bovill, Idaho.

She attended Oilmont (Mont.) High School. She moved to Spokane in 1945 and worked for J.C. Penney and Washington Water Power before becoming a homemaker.

In 1955 she married Oscar Hegna.

Mrs. Hegna enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading and listening to music.

Her husband died in 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Gaines and Bill Shepherd, both of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Joyce Tryon of Seattle; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
