Grading the Cougs

The Spokesman-Review

Quarterbacks: A+

Josh Swogger wasn’t perfect, but he helped bail the Cougars out with the run game struggling.

Running backs: C-

The Cougars had 31 carries for 31 yards, with a long run of just seven.

Wide receivers: B-

Dropped balls hurt early, and roster shuffling made it difficult to develop a rhythm.

Offensive line: C+

The run blocking just wasn’t there, but WSU did a decent job of protecting Swogger.

Defensive line: B-

This unit helped keep WSU in it in the first half, but showed some weariness by game’s end.

Linebackers: B

No big plays from this group, but nothing that hurt the Cougars much, either.

Secondary: B+

The Cougars got burned on occasion, but also made three significant interceptions.

Special teams: A-

A solid game, and Omowale Dada’s blocked punt is the play of the game.

Coaching: B

The Cougars were thrown off by the Lobos, but the staff made enough adjustments to compensate.
