Tigers needed a foe: Hello, Othello

The Spokesman-Review

Odessa almost didn’t have a season opener.

The Tigers’ scheduled opponent, Bridgeport, called and cancelled because the team didn’t have enough players to field a team. Wednesday, Othello agreed to fill the void by sending over its junior varsity for a non-league game.

Odessa scored a 45-6 victory on the field; off the field it was a win-win situation for all concerned.

In other games: Medical Lake’s Tim Morris scored four touchdowns to lead a 35-0 shutout over Ephrata. Morris carried 18 times for 88 yards and three touchdowns and caught a 65-yard pass from Andy Davis for the fourth. Davis completed 50 percent of his passes (9 for 18) for 157 yards. … Josh Adams made the most of his four carries in a 44-0 victory over Touchet. The Sprague-Harrington back piled up 176 yards, including an 86-yard scamper to open the game’s scoring, and pulled in a 29-yard pass from Theo Warner for a touchdown. … Chewelah capitalized on seven turnovers, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries, to key a 35-6 victory over visiting Kettle Falls. Erickson had seven catches for 83 yards to lead the Raiders, who stymied the Wilbur-Creston offense by picking off a pair of passes. … Colville racked up more than 300 yards passing in a 49-27 victory over Lethbridge, Alberta. The visiting Canadians took a 14-7 lead at the half, but surrendered 21 points in both the third and fourth quarters and Colville coasted to the victory. Senior running back David Palumbo rushed for two touchdowns, including a 34-yard romp to open the fourth quarter, and hauled in a 56-yard strike from Tyler Emmil to open the second half.
