Among the event highlights in Oregon this fall:

• Pendleton Round-Up, Sept. 15-18, Pendleton. One of the oldest and most prestigious rodeos in the world, with parades, concerts, PBR bull-riding competition, barbecues, dances, gambling and a Happy Canyon Night Show display of Indian pageantry and tradition. • Sand Sculpture and Beach Festival, Sept. 24-26, Seaside. With amateur and professional sand sculpting contests, plus numerous events on the beach and throughout Seaside all weekend long. (800-444-6740, www.seasidechamber.com)

• Chowder, Blues and Brews Festival, Sept. 24-26, Florence. With a chowder cook-off, food booths, microbrew tasting and competition, live music and a carnival in Old Town all weekend. (541-997-7862, www.florencechamber.com)

• Alpenfest, Sept. 24-26, Joseph. A Swiss/Bavarian festival with traditional food, craft booths, folk dancers and singers in a beautiful mountain setting. ( www.wallowalake.net)

• Corvallis Fall Festival, Sept. 25-26, Corvallis. The 32nd annual event features an arts and crafts festival with live music, 5K and 10K runs, and a street dance Saturday night. (541-752-9655, www.corvallisfallfestival.com)

• Bend Fall Festival, Oct. 2-3, Bend. A weekend of food, music and art with more than 100 artist booths, two music stages, a beer garden and loads of activities. (541-389-0995)

• Fall Kite Festival, Oct. 7-10, Lincoln City. The 26th annual event features demonstrations, mass ascensions, flying competitions and more. (800-452-2151)

• Newport Microbrew Festival, Oct. 8-9, Newport. With arts and crafts, live entertainment, a variety of food booths and mugs filled with some of the best microbrews in the Northwest. (800-262-7844, www.newportchamber.org)

• Medford Jazz Jubilee, Oct. 8-10, Medford. The 16th annual event features Dixieland and traditional jazz, zydeco, blues and swing bands playing simultaneously at eight locations. (541-608-8512, www.medfordjazz.org)

• Hood River Valley Harvest Fest, Oct. 15-17, Hood River. With more than 100 craft and artisan exhibitors, food, music, locally grown produce and the Harvest Fest Quilt Raffle. (800-366-3530)

• Dog Show on the Beach, Oct. 16, Cannon Beach. Fourteen events open to any dog including cutest dog, oldest dog, biggest dog, smallest dog, Frisbee catch, best bark, obstacle course race, best tail wag, 25-yard doggie dash, obedience trials, the best trick, “so ugly you’re cute!,” best costume and owner look-alike contest. • Wagons Ho! Film Festival, Nov. 26, Baker City. Annual showing of a variety of films at the national Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, with discussions on how cinematic treatment of the subject of westward migration affects our understanding of the West.
