Seattle calls up four from minors, including Taylor

SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners called up four minor leaguers Monday, completing right-hander Aaron Taylor’s comeback from surgery.

The 27-year-old Taylor spent most of the season on the disabled list after surgery one year ago to repair a partially torn right rotator cuff.

He returned to the mound July 2 with Double-A San Antonio, going 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA and 37 strikeouts. Taylor is considered a potential closer for the Mariners later in his career.

Also called up were infielder Greg Dobbs, infielder Mickey Lopez and outfield prospect Jeremy Reed. They’ll all get mixed into the lineup over the course of the next month.

“I can’t say I’d start one, but I’d sure pinch-hit for one,” manager Bob Melvin said. “It’s September and we need to win some games. We’re going to run our ‘A’ lineup out.”

To make room for Reed and Lopez on the 40-man roster, the Mariners transferred left-hander Eddie Guardado and right-hander Joel Pineiro from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.

Dobbs hit .325 in 51 games at San Antonio before being promoted June 17 to Triple-A Tacoma, where he hit .271 with eight home runs, 28 runs scored, nine doubles and two triples. Lopez hit .286 with 41 RBIs at Tacoma.

Reed, regarded as one of the top hitters in the minors, joined the Mariners in the trade that sent Freddy Garcia to the Chicago White Sox. Reed hit .305 with five homers and 36 RBIs in 61 games at Tacoma.
