Sophomore leads Wallace to victory

The Wallace sophomore had eight aces in the Miners’ 25-12, 25-16, 25-23 North Star League volleyball victory over Mullan Thursday at Wallace.

Down 20-10 in the third game, the outside hitter served a dozen consecutive points as the Miners roared back to close out the match.

In other North Star League matches, second-year coach Mandy Love got 10 kills from her daughter, sophomore outside hitter Hannah Nyrop, and 15 assists from sophomore setter Cassie Scheffelmaier as Kootenai swept past Coeur d’Alene Charter, 25-13, 25-12, 25-21. … Clark Fork staked Lakeside to a 2-0 lead in the match, then roared back to earn a five-game victory, 20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-12, 15-11. Senior outside hitter Jennifer Gauthier collected 13 kills, seven aces and five blocks and senior hitter Michelle Haase collected a game-high 25 digs for the Wampus Cats.

•Lake City scored a 25-20, 25-14, 17-25, 25-17 Inland Empire League victory over Lakeland. Senior setter Lauren Stern led the Timberwolves with 35 assists and defensive specialist Dani Ghramm had five aces and 13 digs. … Sandpoint held off visiting Coeur d’Alene 11-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-20. Senior setter Katie Davidson paced the Vikings with 18 assists. … Lewiston staved off a furious rally from Post Falls to take a 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 24-26, 15-12 victory. Mackenzie Sinclair, the Trojans’ 5-11 senior middle hitter, threw down a game-high 26 kills and junior setter Hannah Mundy had 64 assists and 62 digs in the hard-fought loss.

•Priest River took a 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 Intermountain League win from visiting Kellogg behind Lisa Barber’s 11 digs and Calli Turner’s four blocks. … St. Maries fell behind 2-0 at Timberlake before roaring back to earn a 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-9 win. Corina Beyer had 16 kills, 28 assists, seven aces and nine digs to lead the Tigers.

•In a non-league game Pullman held off visiting Moscow with a 25-17, 15-25, 25-22, 27-25 victory.

Girls soccer

Moscow bounced back from back-to-back tough losses to bury Lewiston, 7-0, in an Inland Empire League showdown at Lewiston. Senior midfielder Jenny Tibbals had three goals and an assist and her twin sister Mia, also a midfielder, added a goal and an assist. Sophomore forward Jo Byrne also tallied three goals and an assist. … Natalie Nichols had her second consecutive three-goal game, leading Lakeland past Post Falls, 5-2, at Rathdrum. The sophomore striker’s third goal proved to be the game winner – roaring up the left side and sliding a 10-yarder past the Post Falls goalkeeper.

•In non-league matches: Down 1-0 at the half, Central Valley roared back with three second-half goals to top Lake City 3-1. … Medical Lake pumped 25 shots on goal and came away with a 6-0 shutout win over visiting St. Maries… Chewelah scored a 1-0 victory over visiting Bonners Ferry on the strength of Jochelle Schatz’s first-half goal.

Boys soccer

Moscow’s Andy Rust scored the first two goals and added a pair of second-half assists to lead Moscow past Lewiston in an Inland Empire League contest at Moscow. Russel Dudley added a goal and an assist. … Post Falls dominated the match, outshooting visiting Lakeland 14-5, but could not find the back of the net and settled for a 0-0 tie. The Trojans had an apparent goal disallowed at the end of the first half when the referee ruled the score came after the whistle ending the half.

•In a non-leaguer, senior midfielder Casey Kirk had a hat trick to lead Coeur d’Alene past Spokane’s visiting St. George’s Dragons, 5-0. .
