Thursday’s Games

The Spokesman-Review

Royals 26-0, Tigers 5-8: At Detroit, Kansas City set a team record for runs in a doubleheader. Unfortunately for the Royals, they did it all in the first game. The Royals set numerous records in a first-game rout of Detroit, but they had no offense left in a loss in Game 2. Joe Randa led the Royals in the first game, going 6 for 7 and tying a major league record by scoring six times. He had five singles and a double. Jeremy Bonderman (9-11) shut down the Royals in the nightcap, allowing six hits in eight innings.

Yankees 9-10, Devil Rays 1-5: At New York, Gary Sheffield and Tony Clark each drove in two runs during a seven-run second inning, and New York completed a sweep of sinking Tampa Bay.

White Sox 7, Rangers 3: At Arlington, Texas, Mark Buehrle pitched a three-hitter for his second complete game of the season, leading Chicago to a victory over slumping Texas.

Blue Jays 5, Angels 4: At Anaheim, Calif., Carlos Delgado capped a five-run third inning with a two-run homer, and Ted Lilly pitched Toronto to a victory over the Angels. Vladimir Guerrero and Adam Kennedy homered for the Angels, who dropped two games behind first-place Oakland in the West. Lilly (10-10) allowed four runs and seven hits in 71/3 innings, barely preserving a five-run lead, and won for just the third time in 13 starts. With the Angels trailing 5-0, Guerrero led off the fourth with his 29th homer. An inning later, Kennedy’s solo shot cut it to 5-2. Anaheim closed within one run in the seventh with an RBI double by Chone Figgins and a run-scoring groundout by Kennedy.
