Baby boomers will pass to their offspring somewhere between $42 trillion and $136 trillion, a pair of Boston College researchers say. That works out to about $90,000 per heir.

And although that money may be welcome, there are challenges associated with inheritance. For instance, retirement plans and annuities don’t qualify for the inheritance tax exemption.
