Marvin Griffith
Spokane
Visitation for Marvin J. Griffith, 70, will be today from noon to 5 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Griffith, who was born in Albion, Neb., died Thursday. He had been a resident of Spokane since 1976.
As a youth, he swept out hangars and fueled airplanes in exchange for flying lessons. He learned to fly before he was old enough to drive. He was selected as a Civil Air Patrol Exchange Cadet for Switzerland.
In his 30-year career as an airline pilot, Mr. Griffith was the recipient of numerous aviation awards including the Million-Miler Safety Award. He retired as a captain for Flying Tiger Airline, later known as Federal Express.
He was a parishioner of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes and a member of the Parish Council and the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Teramoto; six children, John, Susanne, Barbara, Joe, Julie and Elisabeth; a brother, Richard; two sisters, Marlene and Dannie Kay; and 20 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Bonnie Thomas
Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Bonnie C. Thomas, 51, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the home of Nina Donnenwirth in Rose Lake, Idaho. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Thomas, a lifelong resident of North Idaho, died Sept. 4.
She worked as a bartender at Beta’s Place for many years. She enjoyed painting and her family.
Ms. Thomas is survived by three sons, Robert Matthews and Jesse Snyder, both of Coeur d’Alene, and Jason Loitz of Alaska; four brothers, Harold Matthews of Coeur d’Alene, Ralph MacKenzie of Kingston, Idaho, Doug Matthews of Post Falls and Joe Matthews of Colorado; a sister, Naomi Galloway of Pinehurst, Idaho; and one grandchild.
Ethel Holder
Spokane
Private entombment for Ethel W. Holder, 95, was held at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Holder, who died Monday, was a lifelong resident of Spokane.
She spent her career as an accountant for various companies in Spokane.
She was active in the American Society of Women Accountants and National Women of Accounting. She also enjoyed working for the Shriners Hospital for Children
Her husband, Charles, died in 1987.
There are no immediate survivors.
