Giants 3, Brewers 2: At Milwaukee, Barry Bonds went 0 for 2 and drew two walks, one of them intentional, in San Francisco’s victory over the Brewers. Before the game, the Brewers said they wouldn’t pitch around the Giants slugger just to keep him from joining Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth in the 700-homer club.
Mets 7, Braves 0: At New York, Kris Benson pitched a four-hitter for his second career shutout and first complete game in more than four years, leading the Mets over Atlanta. David Wright, Eric Valent and Cliff Floyd homered to send the Mets to their fourth victory in 24 games.
Reds 7, Phillies 6: At Cincinnati, Felipe Lopez hit a tiebreaking, two-run triple in the sixth inning and the Reds held on to beat Philadelphia. The Reds have won the first two games of the three-game set.
Marlins 8, Expos 6: At Chicago, Florida homered three times in a six-run third, and Jeff Conine drove in the winning run with a walk to lift the Marlins to a victory over Montreal at U.S. Cellular Field.
Cubs 3, Pirates 2 (12): At Chicago, Corey Patterson hit a tying, two-run homer in the eighth and a game-winning shot in the 12th, giving the Cubs a victory over Pittsburgh.
Dodgers 6, Padres 3: At Los Angeles, Jose Lima (13-5) pitched into the seventh, Jayson Werth homered for the third consecutive game and the Dodgers beat San Diego.
Astros 7, Cardinals 5: At St. Louis, Roger Clemens won his 327th game with seven strong innings, and Houston held off the Cardinals. Clemens (17-4) passed Eddie Plank and moved into a tie with John Clarkson (1882-94) for 10th on the career list.
Diamondbacks 4, Rockies 3 (12): At Phoenix, Shea Hillenbrand drove in the winning run with a double in the 12th to lead Arizona past Colorado.
