Idaho captures Big West opener
The University of Idaho volleyball team opened Big West Conference action Thursday night with a four-game win over Pacific (3-3, 0-1) at Memorial Gym in Moscow. The Vandals (6-1, 1-0) won 30-26, 30-24, 23-30, and 30-26.
Kati Tikker led Idaho with a career high 26 kills on a .267 attack percentage. Sarah Meek and Brooke Haeberle recorded 18 kills apiece for Idaho.
Saxony Brown led the Vandals on defense with a career high 24 digs and Meghan Brown added 23. Mandy Becker recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 19 digs and a career high 69 assists.
•North Idaho College scored a pair of volleyball victories at the Western Arizona Tournament in Yuma, Ariz.
The Cardinals defeated Alliant University 30-24, 30-25, 22-30, 30-27 and Eastern Arizona 30-20, 30-17, 28-30 39-13.
Four Cardinals were in double figures for kills in the victory over Alliant, led by Chanele Larsen with 16. Tiana Maua led NIC in assists with 35. Allie Rawlins had 16 kills in the other victory, with Maua again leading the way in assists with 33.
