Mt. Spokane finally beats Mead

Mt. Spokane rode two first-half goals by senior Ashley Imes to its first-ever victory over cross-district rival Mead, 3-0 in a Greater Spokane League showdown. Senior midfielder Shaunae Phillipy fed Imes for the first goal at the 17-minute mark, then added a second-half insurance goal. Her sister, sophomore Kalie Phillipy, made 17 saves to earn the win in goal.

In other GSL games, freshman Aubrey Bot scored midway through the first half to lift Lewis and Clark to a 1-0 victory over Cheney at Hart Field. The Tigers’ defense limited Cheney to just six shots on goal and LC goalkeeper Annie Virnig needed to make just four saves to earn the shutout. … Jenny McKinsey scored twice in the first 11 minutes, including a penalty kick at the 11-minute mark, and assisted on two more goals as Central Valley slapped West Valley with a 5-1 loss. Sara Wilson added two second-half goals for the Bears; Krystal McCarthy scored in the 12th minute for the Eagles. … Casey Burke left-footed a ball inside the left corner from 6 yards out to lift Ferris to a 4-3 win over North Central. The Saxons needed two late goals to force the overtime. Stephanie Rubright scored in the 70th minute and Alex Allred evened the score 5 minutes later.
