Basketball

Dec. 18-19: Hanford Holiday Hoopfest in Richland. The AAU sanctioned tournament is for sixth- through eighth-grade boys and girls. Cost is $160 per team with a guarantee of four games. Oct. 23-24: Tenth annual EWU Fall Shootout 3-on-3 tournament. Adult divisions play Saturday and youth divisions Sunday with three games guaranteed. Entry deadline is Oct. 8. Bowling

Oct 9-10: Inland Empire mixed tournament sponsored by Spokane Bowling Association. Must be ABC or WIBC sanctioned to participate. Entry fee is $15 per event. Entries and more information available at all area bowling alleys.

Backpacking/Hiking/Climbing

Oct. 7: “Bhutan: Land of the Dragon” slide show by John Roskelley, 7 p.m., at Mountain Gear, 2002 N.Division. Cost: $5 to benefit The Lands Council.

Running/Walking

Oct. 2: Sixth annual 5K Race for women at 10 a.m. starts at Ag Trade Center. Benefits the Inland Northwest Women’s Health Network. Info: 953-9924.

Shooting

Sept. 26: Morning Star Boys Ranch Benefit Shoot and Spaghetti Feed at Landt Farms Sporting Clays. Warm-up starts at 8:30 a.m. and tournament at 10. Cost: $50 adults and $35 younger than 18. Info: 464-2070.

Skiing

Sept. 26: Volunteers needed to clear brush from Mount Spokane cross-country ski trails starting at 9 a.m. from Selkirk Lodge. Bring lunch, gloves, work clothes and pruning tools. Pre-register for parking pass and get details by calling Tom Frost, 467-9835.

Softball

Swimming

Sept. 21-24, 27-28: Spokane Area Swimming free stroke clinic and swim team tryout for ages 6-18 at two locations. Sept. 28 at Valley YMCA from 4:15-5:15 p.m. and Sept. 24 and 27 at Shadle Park High School from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Only need to attend one session and swim a minimum of 25 yards. Tennis

Volleyball
