They made music together

The first All-City Grade School Band was photographed in front of Lewis and Clark High School during the 1945-46 school year. Started by R. K. Harris, the band was comprised of elementary students from throughout the city. Divided into three levels, the bands met at LC on Saturday mornings to practice, according to Phyllis M. Gilliland, whose brother, Gerald Butts, is pictured in the center of the second to last row. Gilliland went on to play in the band herself.
