THE WOMEN OF “Desperate Housewives” are getting desperate for their freedom. With this season’s shooting set to wrap on April 26, the stars of ABC’s freshman hit are looking forward to summer vacation – though they’ll be keeping busy.

Teri Hatcher will travel to Europe with her 7-year-old daughter, Emerson.

“We’re thinking Italy or Ireland,” she said. “I want to take Emerson to visit old exotic castles.”

Hatcher also is launching a cosmetic/fashion product line – news to Nicolette Sheridan, who has her own skin care line, Nu Glow.

“She’s a copycat,” joked Sheridan. “Hers can’t possibly be as good as mine.”

And Eva Longoria will head to Secret Service training camp to prepare for her role opposite Michael Douglas and Kim Basinger in the political thriller “The Sentinel.”

“I’m excited to not have to wear (just) bras and panties,” she said.

From ‘Chicago’ to ‘Dallas’

Speaking of TV soaps, Catherine Zeta-Jones has signed on to star in the big-screen version of the classic TV show “Dallas.”

The Oscar winner (for “Chicago”) will play wholesome Pamela Ewing in the Texas oil drama, which ran for 13 years on television starting in 1978.

Her “Ocean’s Twelve” co-star Brad Pitt is expected to join her in the movie, which begins filming later this year. It’s scheduled for release in 2006.

Bye, bye, Mr. American Pie’s license

“American Pie” star Chris Klein is facing a drunken driving charge in San Diego.

Klein, 26, was arrested by San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies Feb. 5. He was charged last month with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol content of .20 and above. The legal limit in California is .08.

Klein also was featured in the 1999 film “Election.”

‘Missing Mares’ for $100,000, Alex

A woman is suing “Jeopardy!” TV quiz-show host Alex Trebek in connection with the disappearance of a $100,000 broodmare that she delivered to his central California horse-breeding farm.

Marion Warner says she sent the mare, BeBe Trando, to Trebek’s Creston Farms in January to be bred to his stallion, Iron Cat.

On March 2, the farm’s manager informed her BeBe had become sick during the night and had to be euthanized.

But Warner says the veterinarian who had supposedly put down the mare had not euthanized any horses at Creston Farms the day, or in the previous week.

In the suit, Warner says she believes that Trebek “sold, traded, gifted or otherwise disposed of BeBe.”

They’re ready to renew their vowels

After more than 20 years on “Wheel of Fortune,” Pat Sajak and Vanna White say they’re perfectly happy spending the rest of their careers on television’s top syndicated show.

“I’m at peace with what my obituary’s going to say,” said Sajak, 58.

Added White, 48: “I can’t imagine someone else turning my letters.”
