Mets’ Cameron out extra 10 days with wrist injury

Newsday

NEW YORK – Mike Cameron will be out at least another 10 days, having had another cortisone shot in his left wrist Friday. The tendinitis that the team has said is unrelated to his Dec. 17 surgery — and was initially not considered serious enough to put him on the disabled list until April 8, a week after it was diagnosed — is now going to keep him out for the first three weeks or longer.

“He still hasn’t swung a bat yet,” Manager Willie Randolph said. “They’re just taking it slowly with him. (His return) is going to be pushed back until he feels comfortable.”

The cortisone shot was the second for Cameron in as many weeks, and he is limited to conditioning for the next week.

“When he had the operation, the first prognosis was mid-to-late April for him to come back,” Minaya said. “We got a little excited when he started swinging the bat well in spring training … It’s just taking time to heal.”

Cameron, eager to begin playing right field, returned earlier than expected on March 25, but was shut down a week later with the tendinitis. Cameron will return to Port St. Lucie on Saturday to resume conditioning.
