Rangers 5, Yankees 3: At New York, Texas beat up Kevin Brown and New York, as Brown allowed five runs and 11 hits in six innings, with New York’s defense limiting the damage by turning two double plays.

Tigers 5, Twins 4 (10): Ivan Rodriguez homered leading off the bottom of the 10th inning to give Detroit a victory over visiting Minnesota.

Orioles 13, Blue Jays 5: At Toronto, Jay Gibbons homered and drove in five runs, and Baltimore bounced back from consecutive shutout losses with a victory over Toronto.

Devil Rays 5, Red Sox 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Eduardo Perez led off the bottom of the ninth with his seventh career pinch-hit homer as Tampa Bay beat Boston.

White Sox 8, Royals 2: Freddy Garcia pitched seven strong innings, Juan Uribe had three hits and Chicago defeated visiting Kansas City, its fifth straight win.

Athletics 4, Angels 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Scott Hatteberg’s two-run single off closer Francisco Rodriguez with two outs in the top of the ninth sent Oakland to a victory over Los Angeles.

National League

Mets 3, Nationals 1: At New York, Tom Glavine limited Washington to two hits over seven innings and Cliff Floyd hit his fourth home run of the season to lead New York past the Nationals.

Braves 6, Phillies 2: Marcus Giles hit his first home run of the season and Andruw Jones snapped the longest hitting drought of his career as Atlanta juggled its lineup and beat visiting Philadelphia.

Marlins 4, Reds 2: At Miami, Luis Castillo hit a tiebreaking two-run triple in the seventh and A.J. Burnett struck out a season-high 13 to lift Florida over Cincinnati.

Cardinals 8, Astros 7: At St. Louis, So Taguchi and Mark Grudzielanek each hit a two-run double, and St. Louis’ previously untouchable bullpen withstood a mid-game meltdown, squandering almost all of a seven-run cushion in a victory over Houston.

Rockies 9, Dodgers 1: Jason Jennings pitched his third career complete game for his first win in 12 starts, Brad Hawpe hit a two-run homer and Colorado routed visiting Los Angeles at Denver.

Diamondbacks 5, Padres 3: At Phoenix, Troy Glaus and Royce Clayton each homered and drove in two runs, Brad Halsey pitched a career-high seven innings and Arizona recovered from a poor road trip to beat San Diego.

Brewers 6, Giants 1: Victor Santos pitched a five-hitter for his first career complete game, Junior Spivey hit a two-run homer and Milwaukee snapped a seven-game losing streak with a win in San Francisco.

Pirates at Cubs, ppd.: Chicago’s home game with Pittsburgh was rained out. The game will be made up on July 14, which was supposed to have been a day off.
