Princesses named to Junior Lilac Parade

The Spokesman-Review

Even little girls have a chance to become part of the Royalty Court for the Spokane Lilac Festival.

Last year was the first year that princesses were chosen for the Junior Lilac Parade.

This year’s princesses were chosen from more than 100 girls, ages 4 to 11, who attended the Lilac Festival Royal Tea with their mothers, grandmothers, aunts and friends earlier this month.

Each eligible girl put her name on a ticket, and six girls were chosen. This year’s princesses are: Katelynn McPherson, Courtney Strunk, Meagann Bowers, Ally Romjue, Ashlyn Martin and Katie Manke.

They will join Lilac Festival Queen Jamie Pacello and Lilac Princesses Lindsey Cressey, Rachael Roig, Kiranda Marshall, Courtney Millan, Nicole Holland and Cassidy Gardner in the Junior Lilac Parade.

The 54th annual parade is sponsored by the Spokane Jaycees and is one of the largest children’s parades in the country. This year’s theme is “Magical Wonders.”

Dozens of elementary and middle-school bands will be marching. Kids will be competing for several awards, including a Grand Sweepstake given to the band earning the most points.

The Junior Lilac Parade starts at 10 a.m. May 7 in downtown Spokane.

The annual Spokane Armed Forces Torchlight Parade will be held downtown May 21 beginning at 7:45 p.m.
