Athletics 5, Twins 2: At Minneapolis, Mark Kotsay had three hits and scored the go-ahead run, and Danny Haren (9-7) pitched seven strong innings to lead Oakland past Minnesota for its sixth straight win.
Indians 6, Yankees 5: At Cleveland, Scott Elarton (7-5) contained New York’s power-packed lineup for six innings and led Cleveland to a victory.
Red Sox 6, Royals 4: At Boston, Manny Ramirez belted a three-run home run and added an RBI single to lead the Red Sox over Kansas City for their sixth straight victory.
Blue Jays 7, White Sox 3: At Chicago, Russ Adams hit two home runs, including going back-to-back with Orlando Hudson in the second inning, and Toronto roughed up Jon Garland (15-5) and the White Sox.
Angels 10, Orioles 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Vladimir Guerrero homered twice and drove in five runs, Garret Anderson also connected and Los Angeles sent sputtering Baltimore to its season-worst seventh straight loss.
National League
Cardinals 3, Marlins 1: At St. Louis, Chris Carpenter (16-4) threw a three-hitter to become the major leagues’ first 16-game winner in the Cardinals’ victory over Dontrelle Willis (14-7) and Florida.
Mets 9, Brewers 8 (11): At New York, pinch-hitter Mike Piazza drew a bases-loaded walk from Julio Santana in the 11th inning, and the Mets rallied past Milwaukee. Mike Cameron tied the score with a one-out homer in the ninth off closer Derrick Turnbow.
Astros 3, Diamondbacks 1: At Phoenix, Roger Clemens (10-4) threw seven innings of four-hit ball to earn his 338th victory one day before his 43rd birthday as Houston topped Arizona.
Dodgers 5, Nationals 4: At Washington, Jeff Kent, Jason Phillips, Jason Repko and Hee-Seop Choi all homered to lead Los Angeles past the slumping Nationals.
Cubs 2, Phillies 1: At Philadelphia, Carlos Zambrano pitched eight scoreless innings, and Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run single in the eighth, leading Chicago over the Phillies.
Braves 12, Reds 2: At Cincinnati, Chipper Jones homered and drove in four runs before leaving the game with an injury in the fourth inning, and Atlanta ended the Reds’ season-high five-game winning streak.
Padres 11, Pirates 3: At Pittsburgh, Jake Peavy (9-4) pitched effectively for seven innings and helped San Diego’s slumping offense by driving in his first run this season, leading the Padres past the Pirates for their second victory in 14 games.
Rockies 4, Giants 3: At San Francisco, Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer, and Jamey Wright (6-11) pitched six strong innings to lead Colorado over the Giants.
