The Spokesman-Review

The pullout in The Spokesman Review on Ryne Sandberg (Baseball Hall of Famer) was outstanding.

However, having a great write-up is not enough to recognize homegrown talent. Newspaper articles eventually end up in the trash can. Spokane has a number of talented individuals in other sports, arts, etc., that are recognized throughout the United States.

A few years ago it was suggested to the Convention and Visitors Bureau that they erect recognition billboards and use them in their tourism booklets, i.e. “Home of …” This suggestion was turned down by the CVB, acknowledging that such a program existed in other cities but they didn’t have the time. You don’t need a program, only ingenuity.

Perhaps, the Chamber of Commerce would accept the challenge.
