Two area Boy Scouts achieve Eagle rank

Two area Boy Scouts recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given in Scouting.

Anthony Ahmann of Troop 171 is the son of Randy and Janice Ahmann of Spokane. He constructed an information kiosk for his project.

Kevin Entzminger of Troop 468 did landscaping at St. Mary’s Catholic School for his project. He is the son of Steve and Maryann Entzminger of Spokane Valley. He is a graduate of Gonzaga Prep and plans to attend Loyola Marymount College in California.

“ Scott Thompson was recently named the first recipient of the Chris Hanly Memorial Aviation Scholarship. The award of $1,500 is to be used for private pilot training. Thompson is a 2005 graduate of Central Valley High School.

“ Lee Douthitt of Spokane was named to the spring semester dean’s lists at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. The list requires students to achieve a grade-point average of 3.6 or better.

“ Several local residents recently earned master’s degrees from Whitworth College. Graduates are listed by their hometown, with the focus of their degree.

“ Pine England of Spokane Valley recently earned a master’s degree in business administration from Baker College in Michigan.

“ Cameron Meredith of Coeur d’Alene recently participated in the Microelectronics Research and Communications Institute’s Neuroscience Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at the University of Idaho. The eight-week program brought together students from around the country to study neuroscience, biology, chemistry, psychology and computer science.

“ Amanda Ruen of Spokane was recently awarded the Rensselaer Medal by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The medal is given to students who distinguished themselves in math and science. Each medalist who enrolls in the institute receives an annual scholarship of $15,000. Ruen is a student at Gonzaga Prep.

“ Two area students have been awarded a $2,000 Presidential Scholarship at Eastern Washington University for the 2005-2006 school year. The award is given to incoming freshmen based on their academic accomplishments. Brandie Doppenberg, a 2005 graduate of Colville High School, is the daughter of John Doppenberg of Colville.

Rachel Smith of Chewelah, Wash., has been awarded a $3,000 Academic Honors Scholarship in addition to the Presidential Scholarship. A 2005 graduate of Jenkins High School, Chewelah, Smith is the daughter of Teresa Field of Addy, Wash., and Robert Smith of Bullard, Texas. She plans to major in Spanish.

“ Bobby Enslow of Spokane was named to the spring honor roll at Washington State University.

“ Three local residents recently graduated from the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps leader development and assessment course at Fort Lewis.

Joseph Trudeau, the son of Brian and Melinda Trudeau of Spokane, is a 2002 graduate of Shadle Park High School and Spokane Falls Community College.

Rebecca Gant, the daughter of Donald and Caroly Gant of Spokane Valley, is a 2002 graduate of Central Valley High School. She is currently attending Pacific Lutheran University.

Trevor Read, the son of Don and Darey Read of Spokane, is a 1998 graduate of Kentwood High School in Kent, Wash. He is currently attending Washington State University.

“ The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Spokane recently presented member Donald Head with the George F. Hixson Fellowship Award, the club’s highest honor. He has been a member of the club since 1972 and has worked on many service projects, fund raisers and committees. Head worked as a special agent for the FBI for 25 years before retiring in 1975. The award recognize’s Head’s longtime membership and service.
