Brown qualifies for national tournament

Kent Brown of Colville won medalist honors and qualified for the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship by shooting a 2-under-par 70 at Spokane Country Club Friday.

Brown will compete at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn., Sept. 10-15.

The first alternate is Mark West of Spokane, who shot a 71.

In order to win that distinction, West won a three-way playoff with Ken Wade of Kennewick and Tim Rypien of Spokane.
