Michael John Poesl celebrated his 100th birthday July 15. He was born in Germany and has lived in Eastern Washington for the past 81 years.

He was introduced to his wife, Margaret, by her father. Poesl said the day they married is the most memorable moment in his life.

Poesl has three children: Sallie Thiessen, Seattle; Sue Bjurstrom, Spokane; and Jim Poesl, Los Angeles; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Poesl said his most rewarding life achievement has been coming to the United States and becoming a brew master for Rainier Beer.

When asked what has helped him live a long and healthy life, he said, “I did it my way.” He also attributes attending daily Mass, golf, fishing, being a reluctant traveler and the support he received from his loving wife and family.
