Wright makes Yankee return
NOTES
New York Yankees right-hander Jaret Wright was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list to start Monday night’s game at Tampa Bay.
To make room for Wright, reliever Wayne Franklin was optioned to Triple-A Columbus.
Wright, pitching for the first time since April 23, allowed two runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings – his longest outing of the season. He struck out two, walked one and hit three batters, including Jonny Gomes twice.
Beltran looking at surgery
Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran had tests at a hospital in New York and is deciding whether to have surgery to repair a facial fracture.
The tests also showed Beltran has a concussion. An MRI of his brain and an extensive evaluation were normal. He was hurt in a head-to-head collision with right fielder Mike Cameron last Thursday in San Diego.
Beltran is day to day, but if he opts for surgery he probably will go on the 15-day disabled list.
Clearing the bases
The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Rondell White on the 15-day DL due to a dislocated shoulder and recalled outfielder Curtis Granderson from Triple-A Toledo. White, injured his left shoulder diving for David DeJesus’ inside-the-park homer on Sunday in Kansas City. … Padres shortstop Khalil Greene was placed on the 15-day DL after breaking his left big toe in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday. He’s expected to miss two to three weeks. To take his roster spot, the Padres purchased the contract of shortstop Wilson Valdez from Triple-A Portland.
