Area women’s golf clubs in thick of competitions

This is the time of year when two weeks of vacation means catching up on past doings of local women’s golf organizations.

Liberty Lake 9s

During most recent competition, Karen Strauss with 47 and Linda Sahnow with 56 recorded low gross scores for A flight golfers.

B flight went to Sadie Rueckert with 56, and Shirley Schoenberger with 53. Schoenberger had a chip-in on the fourth hole.

Cheryl Baumber shot 63, and Wilma Capaul 52 to lead C flight. In D flight, Peg Nadvornick had low gross 76 one week and low net 45 the next, while Judy Thies shot 73 for the other low gross score.

Net winners were Peggy Phillips with A flight 38 and 39 scores, sharing the latter with Audrey Vanos. Phillips had a chip-in on No. 13.

Mary Ann Barham and Mary Ann Wilhelm led B flight with 35 and 37 respectively. Ethel Rankin had scores of 39 and 37 in C. And Jean Skredsvig had low net 39 in D, while Lorraine Martin on No. 6 and Joann Ruddell on No. 14 also had chip-ins.

Trailhead Ladies Golf

July winner of the Trailhead Ladies Golf Club President’s Cup competition was Grace Libby, whose C flight low net score was best of the field overall.

Joyce Jacobs was A flight winner, and Wilma Capaul won B.

Jacobs during the recent two weeks had low gross scores of 45 and 47, the latter sharing top honors with Marcia Rowley. Dee Elder had winning net scores of 28 and 31.

B flight winners were Ro Lisk, Bev Johnson and Shirley Rodman all with scores of 53. Sandi Hatcher, Johnson, Patti Haskins and Bobbie Parent all had low net scores of 29.

Hatcher had a low gross 45 while golfing in C flight. Penny Brace won earlier at 66 and a week later netted 34.

No-handicap winners were Carol Townsend with 63, and new member Mary Ann Evans.

Jacobs and Rowley both had chip-ins.

Liberty Lake 18s

Over two weeks, golfers from the Liberty Lake Women’s 18-Hole Club conducted Liberty Cup and putting competition as well as regular medal play.

Jean Hatcher had low net 72 to win August’s Liberty Cup round, and Flurry Snyder needed just 26 putts during the day.

Other low putt flight scores were Jackie Shea‘s 28 in A, Raouleen Grimes with 28 in B, two better than Connie Hatfield. Dorothy Womach took 27 putts, and Joanne Froehlich 28 in C, while Myrna Neubauer needed 34, and Jan Hussey 36 in D.

Last week’s medal winner was Shea with a low gross 94 in A flight. Kathy Brown netted 75.

Debbie West shot 97, and Lesley Dunbar netted 81 in B. Louise Newtson shot 98, and Marion Jordan netted 77 in C. Neubauer shot 116, and Hussey netted 82 in D.

Painted Hills

During competition on Aug. 1, no-handicap golfer Jeanne Allemand indicated which flight she’ll eventually join with the week’s low gross 41 score.

A flight winner Marcia Taylor shot 50, B flight went to Pat Angove at 53, C flight to Kathy Bates at 56, and D flight to Shirley Olson with 64.

Net winners were Gail Bailey with a 43 in A, Joyce Jacobs with 37 in B, Eunice Hubble with 35 in C and Cathy Esmay with 33 in D. Her round included a chip-in on the seventh hole.

MeadowWood

MeadowWood Women’s 18-Hole golfers conducted a putting contest during its Aug. 10 outing.

Suzi Stone won with low total of 28. Elsa Metting, Nellie Auckerman and Ets Yamada tied for second with 30.
